Hsinchu, Taiwan, November 29, 2024 – Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS) and its renewable energy subsidiary, Sustainable Energy Solution Co., Ltd. (SES), announced today a landmark collaboration with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V). Together, SAS and SES have signed a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with Fengmiao I Offshore Wind Farm (Fengmiao I) to procure offshore wind power, marking a historic first in Taiwan where a parent company and its subsidiary jointly purchase offshore wind energy. Additionally, SES has become the first retailer in Taiwan to sign a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) for offshore wind energy.
Taiwan’s subtropical climate provides abundant sunshine during the summer and strong northeast monsoon winds in the winter, particularly across the Taiwan Strait. Fengmiao I, located approximately 35 kilometers off the coast of Taichung City, is designed to harness these seasonal advantages. With plan to install 33 advanced wind turbines, the Fengmiao I project focuses on delivering a stable supply of green energy. Leveraging Taiwan’s geographic advantages, SAS and SES are expanding their renewable energy portfolio by integrating offshore wind power from CIP with solar energy. This diversified green energy mix combines the stable nighttime output of offshore wind power with the high-efficiency daytime generation of solar energy. Such a complementary approach not only meets businesses’ demand for a reliable energy supply but also enhances the proportion of renewable energy in the overall mix. By providing a more abundant and flexible green energy solution for the Group and its supply chain partners, this initiative supports corporate energy transformation and aligns with global net-zero sustainability goals.
Doris Hsu, Chairperson of SAS and SES, stated: “SES is committed to integrating green energy supply and demand, offering clients flexible and diverse renewable energy solutions. By combining the stable nighttime supply of offshore wind power with the high-efficiency daytime generation of solar energy, enterprises can not only increase their renewable energy utilization but also accelerate their energy transformation efforts. This ensures they meet the demands of a sustainable green supply chain.”
Thomas Wibe Poulsen, APAC Regional Partner for CIP’s Flagship Funds and Chairman of Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm, stated: “Fengmiao I is a benchmark project in Taiwan’s offshore wind development. The project stands out as the most progressed Round 3 project with engineering and procurement advanced, and strong interest shown from the domestic and international financing markets. These achievements reflect confidence from the supply chain, lenders, and government in the project’s ability to achieve a timely grid connection. This trust has solidified Fengmiao I as the green energy partner of choice for prominent enterprises like SAS Group.”
Doris Hsu further emphasized: “The 30-year joint power purchase agreement from SAS and SES underscores our steadfast commitment to a sustainable future. Through the long-term, stable supply of green energy, we reaffirm our dedication to supporting corporate decarbonization goals and achieving ESG objectives. This agreement not only strengthens our renewable energy strategy but also provides robust support for energy transformation efforts among our semiconductor supply chain partners, helping us all move toward a low-carbon future.”
